Sitework Update at Belmont & Home Road: Earthwork, Trenching & Stormwater System Prep

Two weeks ago we announced the start of sitework for the new assisted living community at Belmont & Home Road in Springfield. Since then, our crew has been hard at work transforming the 5.82-acre parcel from a grass lot into a construction-ready site.

What’s been completed:

• Mass earthwork & rough grading: Bulldozers and compactors have cut, filled, and shaped the pad to the project’s design elevations, establishing haul roads and laydown areas.
• Erosion & traffic control: Silt protection, construction entrances, and fencing are in place to protect neighboring properties and keep the work zone secure.
• Stormwater system excavation: We opened trenches and prepared stone bases for an underground detention chamber system (the yellow arch-style units shown below). This system will capture and slowly release runoff, reducing peak flows during storms.
• Building pad prep: Subgrade has been proof-rolled and compacted in lifts to meet the geotechnical specs for uniform support.

What’s next:

• Set & backfill stormwater chambers and connect manifolds/inlets per the civil plans.
• Utility stub-outs for water, sanitary, electric, and communications.
• Fine grade & proof the building pad ahead of foundation work.
• Continue site drainage features, curbs, and stone base for future paving.
